Live Advanced Spanish
One of my FAVORITE things about teaching is seeing how much Spanish my students know by the end of Spanish 2 and how much they enjoy being able to engage in real conversation! It's exciting! I'm happy to offer this Advanced Class for students to keep enjoying and keep learning.
Below you'll find information about my live, online Advanced Spanish class for homeschool students. Students must have completed Spanish 2 (either with me or through another program) before taking this class. Feel free to reach out if you have additional questions! Email me at rebecca@homeschool-spanish.com

Have fun, build fluency
Through fun conversation activities during class, we'll work on building fluency - the ability to speak Spanish confidently and fluidly using the verbs, structures, and words your student already knows!

Learn advanced concepts
We'll explore some of the advanced Spanish grammar concepts that are usually taught in a Spanish 3 class. Homework is not required but follow-up readings, activities, and videos will be offered.

Access to Rebecca
By being part of Advanced Spanish, your student will also have access to me through my weekly office hours! They can come to ask questions or simply listen in and practice Speaking or pronunciation.

What is Advanced Spanish class?
"If you don't use it, you lose it!" This is true when it comes to speaking a language!
Advanced Spanish is designed to help students not only maintain what they have learned in Spanish 1 and Spanish 2 but also build confidence speaking, gain fluency, learn advanced Spanish grammar concepts, and have FUN with the language they've learned!
This class meets once a week for one hour. During that hour, I will guide students through conversation activities, vocabulary exercises, and advanced Spanish grammar. We will begin the year by reviewing concepts from Spanish 2 with lots of time for conversation practice during class. As the year progresses, we will build on their knowledge by introducing some of the advanced grammar concepts that are typically taught in a Spanish 3 class.
This type of class provides flexibility for you to approach it as your student wants/needs:
-
a chance to practice Spanish and maintain what they have learned during Spanish 1 and Spanish 2
-
build conversation skills, speaking confidence, and fluency
-
work through a Spanish 3 book of their choice on their own (if they'd like to) and use my class (and office hours) as a chance to ask questions and practice
Day and Time:
Advanced Spanish class will be Mondays from 4:00pm ET to 5:00pm ET.
This class runs from the first week of September to the last week of April.
What your student gets:
-
Live class once a week
-
Access to the class recording for one week after class
-
Suggested weekly activities and readings to keep learning and practicing
-
Access to me during live office hours once a week (the day and time of office hours changes weekly to accommodate a variety of schedules!)
-
The chance to ask me questions throughout the week via message

Community and conversation throughout the week with other advanced Spanish students via chat (if they'd like!)
-
Valuable practice speaking Spanish!
Advanced Spanish FAQs
How much is tuition?
$480 for the homeschol year (first week of September through the end of April).
How long does the class last?
The weekly class is one hour long.
Will the class be taught in Spanish or English?
At this stage, students can understand a LOT of Spanish! Plus, learning by immersion is one of the best ways to learn. I'll speak mostly in Spanish when I teach this class but if your student has a question about something, I will be happy to explain in English if needed!
Will there be any tests?
No. I will not give any tests.
Is there a required book or workbook?
There is no required book. If a student wants to do follow-up work after class to keep practicing and studying the concepts we learned, I will offer suggestions of readings, books, videos, activities, and the like.
Is there required homework?
No. I will make recommendations of "homework" to do throughout the week but I won't be collecting homework or grading homework.
Is this a live class?
Yes! Students are able to attend live or they can watch the recording within one week of the class. They are not required to attend live (but will benefit most if they do!).
Does my student have access to office hours?
Yes! Your student will also have access to my weekly office hour. The day and time of office hours changes each week to accommodate a variety of student schedules!
What is the cost?
The cost for the entire schoolyear (first week of September through end of April) is $480.
How does a student log on to class?
I use Canvas as a virtual "homeroom" for a student's online class. Everything is there - the live class "classroom", the suggested follow-up activities, office hours, and the chat for students to communicate with their classmates outside of class if they'd like.
During class, students can see and hear me and they can see the classroom whiteboard. And, they can communicate with me via chat and their microphone in class.
Does my student need a microphone?
Yes! To get the most out of class time and have the most fun using the Spanish they already know, we will be speaking a lot during class. 🙂
All students are required to have a working microphone. Students can turn their video on during class if they'd like but it is not required.
Can my student ask you questions outside of class time?
Yes! Students can communicate with me via our class homeroom email outside of class. I will prioritize email from students and respond in a timely manner.
Which time zone are class times and office hour times?
Class times listed are in Eastern Time (ET).
What's the recommended grade range for your Advanced Spanish class?
To take Advanced Spanish, students must have completed Spanish 2 (with me or with another program). I recommend that students are between 10th - 12th grade.
Is there a limit to the number of students in this class?
Yes, to allow for plenty of speaking time for all students, there is a maximum of 14 students in this class.
Are students required to attend classes at the live time?
No, but I encourage students to attend live as much as possible so that they can practice speaking and enjoy being together! But, if a student cannot attend live, they can watch the recording within one week of the class.
When does the homeschool year for Advanced Spanish class begin and end?
The fall semester is September through mid December and the spring semester is early January through end of April, with holiday breaks as well as Fall break and Spring break. Exact dates will be communicated.
Do you teach with a Christian worldview?
I teach Spanish in my classes :) However, as a Christ-follower, I have a Christian worldview and occasionally discuss how we can learn more about the Lord as we study another language, learn from other cultures as we learn their language, and bless others by speaking another language. In this class, some of the suggested follow-up activities will include Bible passages in Spanish.
Are students issued an end-of-class grade for a class?
No. There are no evaluations in this class and I will not issue a grade at the end. This class is created to build fluency and grammar skills and offer lots of structured speaking practice!
However, I've designed this class to be what you need it to be. If you'd like your student to work through a Spanish 3 book, this class will be an excellent supplement since we will touch on many of the concepts that Spanish 3 teaches. And, your students are welcome to use my office hours to ask any questions they might have!
Are you teaching "Spain Spanish" or "Latin American Spanish" and is there much difference?
Since I lived in Spain (read more about me here), you may be wondering whether I teach Spain (Castilian) Spanish or Latin American Spanish - and how different they actually are. My accent and the vocabulary I use is Castilian, so that is what students will mostly hear in class. That said, the differences between the two variations are not many! The Spanish language is generally understood by any Spanish speaker worldwide.
If I need to cancel my registration, what's your cancellation policy?
Until 10 days prior to the beginning of classes, there is an 80% refund. After 10 days prior to the beginning of classes, there is no refund.
Are there any prerequisites for this class?
For Advanced Spanish, a student must have successfully completed Spanish 2 (with me or otherwise) with a C or better. If they completed Spanish 2 on their own or with another teacher, please send me an email before registering your student.
