Reading-while-listening

To really learn another language, we need all sorts of input and practice, such as reading, writing, speaking, and listening. And... reading-while-listening!
Reading-while-listening means that you're following along (reading a text) while someone reads aloud. One reason this is helpful is that it helps you link sounds to written words.
Here's an example exercise (and one that would be great practice for students who have completed Spanish 1 or Spanish 2!).
The textbooks I use for Spanish 1 and Spanish 2 offer read-while-listening exercises. I encourage students to take advantage of these!
Here's an idea for how to thoroughly engage with read-while-listening activities:
Start by just listening. Close your eyes and let your brain absorb the Spanish! Don't worry about the words you can't understand.
Read-while-listening. Follow along.
Read only. Read silently at your own pace.
Read aloud. Warm up your tongue and give it a go! Read aloud, taking the time you need to practice pronunciation.
As always, be brave, speak up, and learn Spanish!
